Trouble always seem to come in threes, and mine came within two days of each other. On Monday a sweater I wear when I first get to work was stolen from behind the circulation desk. None of my coworkers know what happened to it, I couldn't find it anywhere, and I realized it was stolen within an hour time period. The desk was unattended at least twice, which gave ample opportunity for it to be stolen. It wasn't a prized possession or anything, it was a black cardigan that I haven't worn in several years. But it was MINE! It ruined my morning and put me in a sour mood for most of my shift.
Yesterday I was running a little late and on my way to work the car in front of me decided to slam on his breaks and I rear ended him. We're both fine, his bumper was a little scratched up and possibly dented, and my right front end was smashed. The headlight is gone, the grill is smashed into the engine, if I turn my wheels to the left the right tire hits the car, and I can't open my passenger door. I have no collision coverage so the loss is my burden to bear. Of course it will cost anywhere from $4-6K to fix. I think most of the blame for the accident should go to the guy, especially since he didn't have a valid reason for breaking (no cars around, nothing in front of him). But I rear-ended him, and the insurance agency accepts his reasoning, so I get to take the blame for the accident. Luckily insurance will cover all his damages. Of course I got a warning ticket (yes, the cops were called), and I'm sure this will raise my insurance. Here is what the front end of car now looks like.
The third bad thing is I didn't get the archiving assistant position. I was greatly disappointed, and it was a crappy end to a bad day.
On to the good news. I was able to drive my car to a salvage yard and got $250 for my car. I'm a horrible negotiator, so I didn't try to get more. But that's more money than I had before, and it was the highest offer I got from over a dozen calls I made to get the best price. I also got the money in cash, which was nice. I now don't have to worry about car insurance, buying gas, or putting more money into the car.
While it sucks to be without a car, it's really not that bad a situation. I bought a bus pass at work and saved about $25 on a month pass, and I have printed off the different bus routes I can take to get to and from work. This is both good and bad. The bad news is that I now have to get up and out the door by about 5:30-5:40 and I get to spend about an hour on the bus.
To make things even better is that I'm going on vacation tomorrow! I'm going with two friends/coworkers to Disneyland! We're going to spend three days in both parks, and one day relaxing and seeing some of the sights of Los Angeles. We'll be there during the unofficial gay days, so Saturday and Sunday will be busy. One friend has never been, the other friend hasn't been there in a year or so (maybe several years), and I haven't been since I was six, so we're a good mix. I just hope we'll have time to do everything. Once I get back I will post my pictures so you can see how much fun it was. I will try to find Mickey and get my picture taken with him, but I'm more excited for the rides and music than the characters.
So keep me in your prayers and hope that nothing else terrible will happen.
