I've been riding the bus for about a month now. It's not every day because sometimes my wonderful mother will lend me her car so I don't have to wake up extremely early to get on the 6:00am bus to get to work. I transfer once and have about a 10-15 minute wait before the next bus comes. While waiting I spend the time pacing to keep warm. I get to work about 15 minutes early, and once I'm inside I get right to it.
The bus drivers I meet are pretty nice and cheerful. One is on the youth committee, or something like that, and spent an entire bus ride asking me questions about dance etiquette. I learned some interesting information about the LDS youth of today, and I have to admit that it was pretty pathetic. The other bus driver is a chatty Cathy, and it's interesting hearing the things he likes to talk about. If I'm not reading or listening to my iPod, it's rather entertaining to listen and participate in.
Going home isn't quite the same experience, in fact the afternoon drivers are less chatty, but just as friendly. Of course I generally get off right as the bus is passing the stop, so I generally have to wait 30 minutes before the next bus comes. It's about another 10 or so minute wait at the transfer spot, as well as a ten minute walk home at my stop. All this I get to do in business clothes (kind of business casual, but not really). This wouldn't be too bad if it weren't for the fact that I've put on weight since 2006. Now that I'm walking more I'm starting to slim down again, so I'm hoping the pants won't always be so uncomfortable.
My one adventure so far happened last week when the snow decided to fall a little earlier than I like. Well, I was waiting at my transfer spot, walking back and forth to keep warm, when a truck is in the far right lane passes by me, and completely soaks my right side. Luckily I was wearing a down coat and had a water resistant bag, so I only really had to worry about my soaked leg. After that I learned my lesson and whenever cars were passing by I hid on some random persons pathway to avoid any further possible splashes. Hopefully I'll have a little more time before the next storm fits. Next week looks like it should be good.
One good thing about riding the bus is that I have a lot more time for reading now. I have four books to read from work. Luckily I know people that can help me keep the books checked out until I've had a chance to read them. :-)

I remember the good ol' days of riding the bus due to lack of independent mode of transportation. It's good though, I quite enjoyed it. The time you would have been spending on driving and being cautious to other drivers and watching the road, you now can use the time for reading and meeting new people. I definitely enjoyed it so I could study minutes before a test or do last minute homework. We'll have to definitely get together some time. maybe after the holidays and the weather has calmed down a bit.
