This week I have started new training, I've been trained at the reference desk. On Monday I learned about databases and what the school has available, and I am impressed. I found out there is a database to get 3D images of the body, see a real MRI scan; another one that has full length educational movies covering several topics. When I have time, I get to have fun exploring the different databases.
Today I learned the basics of the reference desk, how testing works, and learned a little bit about e-portfolios (also called blogs). To work the reference desk I get to learn more about the different sites, how they work, and be prepared in case any students have questions.
The experience and knowledge will be great to have, especially if it brings the chance for a promotion of sorts. There's a new position at work that I'm applying for at the library that is a hybrid position between the circulation and reference desk. One of my coworkers, who has a lot of experience with e-portfolio and who has worked at the reference desk, is also applying for the job. I just hope I have enough qualifications to get it. It would be nice to get more experience in an area that I'm considering as a profession. Even if I don't get the job, at least the experience will be a move in the right direction. Wish me luck!!
