This last week has been a lot of fun. I've spent the last week researching George Dewey, which has been cool and boring at the same time. But because I've been doing so much research, I was given permission to go to the Navy Museum during hours. It was a lot of fun going there, I learned a lot of stuff, and I got to see a lot of cool stuff. I got to see a display ship, and I got to sit in the seat of sometime of gun/missile launcher thing. I'll have to post a picture later. It was either from WWII or the Korean War, I can't remember where it was in the museum. Plus, it was cool to be able to waste an afternoon looking at cool stuff with my supervisor's permission.
Saturday I went to the Portrait Gallery and the National Cathedral. Both were great experiences, and I saw beautiful things. At the Portrait Gallery I found a portrait of Admiral Dewey, which was pretty cool. He's also interred at the National Cathedral, so I got to see where his remains rest (they have a U.S. flag and Navy flag, or maybe it was his state flag . . .). Anyway, I only spent about 3 hours at the Portrait Gallery, which was not enough. There was so much to see, but I still wanted to check out the Cathedral, which was only open till 4pm. I got to hear part of a tour, and see part of a wedding. Helen Keller and Woodrow Wilson are also interred at the Cathedral, which is Episcopal, not Catholic. Now I just need to check out the Basillica, or the Shrine of Immaculate Conception, or something like that.
Oh, I should mention food since it's part of my title. On Friday, the other intern in Copyright and I went to Bread & Chocolate, which is run by a bunch of people with beautiful accents. They're African, or Caribbean, or something with a soft accent. It was a lot of fun listening to them talk, even though I couldn't always understand what they were saying. I'm willing to try a bunch of different places, but I don't normally have people to try it with, or any idea of what or where the good restaurants are. So if you have any ideas, feel free to share them with me.
