Exhibition

Yesterday was the big exhibition for the Jr. Fellows. We spent most of the day displaying our most important finds, which was quite tiring because of all of the standing. But it was a pretty good day.
My exhibit was focused mostly on Admiral George Dewey, who was made famous by the Spanish-American War. But we had two things that weren't Dewey related: an original cover of The Maple Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin.
Scott Joplin sold the Maple Leaf Rag to John Starks & Son for $50, and he was given a .01 commission for every copy sold. It's one of the most famous pieces of the ragtime era, and it sold over one million copies of instrumental sheet music in a decade, which makes it one of the most popular pieces of instrumental sheet music. I got to say that a lot yesterday. I even got to say it in front of a camera!!! I made the WUSA Channel 9 news last night. If you go to http://www.wusa9.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=74761&catid=158, you can read the article and watch the video about the event(where I'm mentioned! Te he!).
I'm kind of excited that something in our exhibit made the news, especially since it seemed the focus was more on those with audio in their exhibit (and rare books of course). So I'm officially done with my project, and I have three days of working, or not working, before I leave. I have a graduation (which I think is kind of silly), a tour of conservation and the capitol building, and then out-processing. Oh yeah, they even gave us a year book. Welcome back to high school! Oh well, whatever they think will be fun.
