So, my swimming teacher is mean, in a good way but she's still mean! Wednesday was only the second time swimming in the semester, with a week lapse between the two. She decided to give us a great work out. There are six lanes that are 25 yards. She had us swim freestyle down, get out of the pool and do 8 pushups, get in and swim breast stroke back, get out and do ten crunches, get in and swim the back stroke down, get out and do ten lunges. You would have to do each twice to get through all six lanes. She decided that we should do it FOUR TIMES!!! The swimming wouldn't be so bad, that's 24 lengths, or twelve laps, which comes out to about 600 yards, and there's about 1,600 yards in a mile (so I was about a third of the way there). But the push ups tired my arms (and I had to do the girly pushups b/c my upper body strength is almost non-existent and I wanted to be able to swim the entire workout), and the lunges killed my thighs. Only about half of the class finished the workout in the 50 minutes time period we had and I just barely finished when she told everybody they could be done for the day. I decided to do a cool down lap, which helped slow my heart rate, and I was SO THIRSTY! When I first got done swimming, my limbs were shaky, and I couldn't hold anything (I dropped my luffa twice!).
Needless to say, I'm sore, and I've been sore for two days. It's been a long time since I've had such a workout, and I'm not used to the pain that comes with the labor. And to top it off, I played racquetball last night for the first time since early April. I played for maybe an hour, and it wasn't even singles. I played cutthroat, which is two against one, and I won the first game and lost the second. I was gauranteed to win the first, so I had fun with that one, and I wasn't as rusty as I thought I would be. The second game we only played to 11, and I made it to 9 points. Shalane is number one, so I didn't plan on beating her, although it would have been fun if I had. I have beaten her a few times, but it doesn't happen very often.
So I'm more sore today than I was yesterday. Yesterday it was my peck muscles and hamstrings, where they connect to my tush. Today, I can add my back and my right shoulder. I'm glad my ankle isn't hurting, or my thigh. It's sad what sorry shape my body is in.
