Book review

I figured it's time I write about what I've been reading. I'm on Goodread, which makes it easier for me to find books to read. The reason it's easier is b/c I search my friends' profiles to see what they've read, and what they rated it. From that I've picked up the Sookie Stackhouse series (which is the southern vampire series, made into a TV show, TrueBlood, which is named after the synthetic blood the vampires consume so they could come out of hiding), the William Monk series (written by Anne Perry, based in the 1850s), and am also reading the Mr. Darcy series (three books of his point of view of Pride and Prejudice).
The William Monk series is always intense, and can sometimes be a little boring in how descriptive it can be (in scenery and thought process). It is always in a serious vane (vain?), and generally pretty sad b/c it's about a detective trying to solve murders. I like the characters, they blend well together, and you can never be sure who did it until the end. I love the series, but after reading five of the books I needed a break.
So I switched to the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, which was just the right fix. It's a light-hearted story written in the form of letters in 1946. It's cheery, even though it has its sad moments, and you grow to love all of the characters. It's been awhile since I've laughed that frequently with a book. Not the gut busting laugh that lasts several minutes, but a quick chuckle throughout the book.
I am in love with the Sookie Stackhouse series. It's about a mind reader who falls in love with a vampire (and vampires are now accepted into society, kind of, b/c synthetic blood was created for them to consume), and the adventures they have. It's intense, with its moment of hilarity and passion. Whenever I start reading the series, I never want to put it down. I've not eaten meals b/c I want to know what happens next more than I want nourishment (bad I know, but it happens). I've only read the first two books, and it's very frustrating that I have to keep waiting for the book to become available to read it. Thankfully I've found other series to read, but I would rather read that one more than the others.
The great thing about going to the library to pick up the books, is I get to see new releases, and I've found a couple of great books to read. It's nice to find so much to consume my interest, especially with all this free time on my hands. If there is a book or series you think I should read, feel free to recommend something.

I love Anne Perry. Her Thomas and Charlotte Pitt books are also stellar. I own a few of the Monk series and a few of the Pitt series and couple of her random ones.

And i LOOOOOVE Charlaine Harris. I, too, have skipped meals because of them. Also Church. And once, visiting teaching (I'm going to hell, right?) Cameron is reading the series right now because I made him, and HE loves it. You don't have to wait for the other books to become available -- I own them all. Including the short stories. I'll bring them to you at Thanksgiving if you want. We'll be down your way. Or you can come up here and get them :-)
