One of the things the school is doing to get their staff to continue education is to offer prizes for completing online trainings. They call the program SkillSoft, b/c apparently you have to have kid gloves to accomplish anything?!? I don't know. Anyway, the contest for the month was to complete up to three training modules by yesterday. I did mine on leadership communication, how to work with negative people, and customer service in the field. Sadly, other than leadership training, I really didn't learn much from the training. But, I did get three prizes for completing them! Of course, I think anybody who completed them got prizes, so by the time I got to the prize list all of the good stuff was taken. I did manage to get a $5 gift card to Dairy Queen (yay for blizzards!), a purple flower luggage tag, and a packet of thank you cards.
On a different note, I found out today that one of the girls at work ran out of work study money and her last day is the end of the month. Another girl will be leaving at the end of the month to go on maternity leave and nobody is sure if she will be coming back. Is it sad that I hope this means I have a shot of having a job at the end of the summer? I know I plan to never work in an academic library, but it's a fun place to work and I'm friends with basically everybody at the circulation desk. Also, we've started a project that reminds me of when I worked at USU. We're going through a list of student ids to expire access to the library who are not going to school during the summer. It doesn't take long, and I get to brush up on my ten-key skills. Yes, I was actually kind of excited about that. I'm a nerd, I accept it.
