Naomi Peak

Yesterday I had the joy and misfortune of hiking up to Naomi Peak. Keep in mind that I haven't been hiking in about four years or so. Since I'm going camping in September, Kent and I decided we should get used to hiking, and we were supposed to go to Cecret Lake in Salt Lake County during Pioneer Day weekend, but that ended up being canceled. Kent remember Naomi Peak, and that it seemed pretty easy, so we decided to do that. Of course, he was five years younger, with a lot more energy, a lot more in shape, and a lot less weight. Then there's me, who's only kind of getting back in shape.

Needless to say, this wasn't an easy hike. But luckily we were in pretty good moods most of the day. The hike was about six miles round trip, and it took us 6 hours. You would think that would be pretty good average right? But it took us four hours to get up, and two hours to get down. We got passed by probably about six groups going up, and we only made it to the ridge, not the peak. We probably should have gone all the way up, but we felt we had gone far enough. We made it to the top, kind of. We were both tired, sore, and almost out of water. We did play in the snow (I've played in the snow in September on the Mt. Timpanogos trail, but never played with snow in August). We stopped long enough to take pictures, rest a little, play in the snow, and then headed back down. It was a good hike, and we had fun, but I wanted OFF of the mountain and out of nature. I don't mind nature, but I have a problem with the bugs IN nature, so I was ready to sit down on some man made seats that were soft and allowed my back to stretch out and relax.
Anyway, after the hike we were sore, tired, and still hungry (we went to Subway before heading out, and I stupidly thought I would only need a six inch). So we headed to Garden City to get shakes b/c we thought it was closer. It may be closer by about five minutes, and we just happened to get there at the beginning of Raspberry Days. Needless to say, we were kind of ornery at that point, so we quickly got our shakes, ate them, and headed out. When we got back to Logan, we went to Carl's Jr. for dinner, and then went back to my place. We showered, got in relaxing clothes, and watched TV for a couple of hours.
Our day's schedule didn't go quite like we planned. We were originally going to start our day at 9am, but we both wanted to sleep in, so we didn't start on the trail till 11:15am. Luckily there was a breeze for most of the trek, so we didn't get too hot. We got back to the car around 5:30, and back to Logan around 7ish. Taking showers took about a half hour, but we were slow in moving around. Kent left Logan about 11:30ish, and we were both out of it by 1am. I was out of it before then, but I woke up when Kent sent me a text that he got home safe.
It's now morning, and my calves are the only thing killing me. It's a surprise that more doesn't hurt, but I'm grateful it doesn't. I will probably need another day or two to recover, but then I will be moving on Saturday, which is also going to be a lot of fun.
