I got an email on Friday, and it turns out I have a mandatory meeting to go to on Tuesday. This is an information meeting about the position, and if I don't go, I won't be considered for the position. The weird thing is that they said I couldn't wear shoes taller than two inches, and my clothes had to be clean and non-offensive. That I found quite amusing, and I promise not to wear any of those things. After the information meeting, I will set up an appointment for an interview. Hopefully within a few weeks I will have employment!
I found out what a Transitional employee for the USPS is, and I have to admit that I'm not a fan of it. I will get paid decent, and I will acquire vacation days, but I get no benefits or sick days. Also, I'm like a contractor, and will only be conditionally hired for 360 days. If I make it that long I will be rehired, or whatever, for another 360 days, and at that point I will be eligible for insurance, but I'll have to pay for ALL of it.
I'm still applying for jobs, but so far all I've received is "we have received your application" and "thank you for applying, but we have found the best qualified person to fill the position. Please continue to apply for jobs with us". Lame, I know. Oh well, hopefully this economy will turn around and something wonderful will happen. I just hope I can be patient long enough for that to happen.
