Yesterday was my work Christmas party. We closed the library early for "Departmental Training", and there was some training! Anyway, there was good food, yummy desserts, interesting conversation, and the occasional spontaneous outburst of Christmas songs. That was fun, good times were had by all. The best part was when the circulation staff went upstairs for our White Elephant gift exchange. There were 7 of us that participated, and the presents were all pretty good. There wasn't much stealing till the end, which was kind of surprising. I ended up with a festive bucket with a mug full of candy and hot chocolate. That was fun, but the fun stuff came later!
Me and one my coworkers tried to get our supervisor to dance. At work he is very professional almost all the time, especially with those who aren't part of his management team. I've asked him in the past if he ever wears shirts without collars because I just can't picture it. Fridays are casual days at work, but he's still always in at least khakis and a polo shirt. I, of course, teased him on whether or not he wore jeans or shorts as well. Anyway, three people had heard he had promised to dance at the party. So we tried to convince him, at least for 30-45 minutes. Every once in awhile he would bust out a little move, not enough to make it count, but I'm sure he hoped it would appease us. Needless to say, it didn't happen. Even after most of the people there had left he wouldn't do it. We had music playing, he even found a song he said he would dance to, but didn't. Even the dean of the library told him to dance! Unfortunately, it didn't happen, but a lot of entertaining things happened while trying to convince him.
After most people had left, I got to be party to management antics, and I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! It was a good day, I got to wear jeans, there was food, gifts were exchanged, and I got to have fun. It's always a good day when stuff like that happens. And happiest of all, I don't have to wear dressy pants for three weeks! Merry Christmas to me.
