Yesterday was the last day of the semester and it was so NICE when class ended, especially since we got out 15 minutes early. The sad thing is I found both classes to be interesting topics, but I had a hard time getting into either of them. I liked the projects and assignments we had, even though some of them caused me no small amount of stress. Unfortunately I didn't do a very good job of staying caught up in the class readings after Spring Break at the end of March. I may actually go back and read the chapters I missed even though they're not required anymore.
I'm excited for the end of the year, I'll be done with school!! I'll be taking 6 credits in the summer and 7 credits in the fall. I may take a class in the spring to get an emphasis in archiving on my degree. In the summer I'm taking one face to face class, Preservation, and two online classes, Metadata and Database Design. I'm really excited for Preservation, and while the other classes are interesting I'm taking them more to stay current with what seems to be important rather than because I have a dying need to take them. Luckily I'll have classmates in the Database Design class, so hopefully we'll get to work together or at least keep each other motivated. In the fall I'll be taking capstone, which is my only face to face class, and two archiving classes. I'm so glad to be done with required classes, and look forward to the electives I get to take. If I could audit classes, and not have to pay for them, there are many more classes I would be interested in taking, but I don't want to have more student loans than I need and I really need a break from school.
While it's exciting to have this semester over, it makes me kind of sad. While it's nice to have all the required classes done, my cohort will now be breaking off to do their different interests. Other than capstone in the fall, there won't be another time that we'll be all together again. It's been fun meeting together and getting caught up on what's been going on in our different lives. There are so many different perspectives that the discussions were always lively, diverse, and interesting. It's also been great because I'm terrible at staying in touch with people, and this is a good way to ensure meeting up.
I can't imagine I would go for a PhD, I have no large scale management dreams, but I hope when I finish school I may get to work at a university, college, or community college and be able to take classes for free. Even though I say I'm done with school, there is so much I still want to know. It's a nice thought, but I'm going to focus on 2 1/2 weeks of no classes before the next semester starts. On a different note, I'm on the graduation committee and I'm excited to plan my graduation!
