My weekend did not go quite as planned. Since I've pretty much ignored the start of school I was going to get caught up on everything and possibly get ahead! Yeah, obviously that didn't happen. Saturday I managed to get several errands done that I was planning on doing, which I was glad I was able to do. Sunday was a regular day for me, trying not to do homework and stuff. Monday was the day that didn't go quite according to plan. I was woken up a little earlier than I normally get up (which was okay b/c I still got about 8 hours of sleep) to help. One of my grandmother's basement was flooding, which isn't surprising considering how much rain we've gotten.
So after quickly eating breakfast and getting ready, we headed over and helped for about 3 hours. We could figure out how to stop the flooding, so we were basically trying to keep it somewhat under control. So we used shop vacs and towels to try to stem the flow. My mom guesses we sucked up about 50 gallons, and that's only while we were there! After we left another sump pump was put in to try to get rid of all the water. Last I heard it was helping a lot. Unfortunately my other grandma's basement started flooding a little as well. I think it wasn't as bad b/c it was really only mentioned in passing. It could also be that my uncle lives there and is generally able to take care of anything that comes his way, a regular Mr. Fixit. As much as I'm looking forward to the sunshine, I feel bad for those people at risk for flooding b/c it's only going to get worse now that the weather is warming up. Thank goodness I live on a hill on the west side of the valley!!
