Fun times with ILL

The supervisor that is in charge of half of Interlibrary Loans (ILL) has been on vacation since last week, and will be till the beginning of June. Because of this I got trained to do her portion of ILL - I do lending and she does borrowing. Borrowing is a lot more demanding than lending, at least it feels that way. I got a quick crash course in doing ILL, and it seemed like we covered all the necessary bases. Needless to say I have felt overwhelmed and under-trained in some of the situations I've come across. The person on vacation is the only one familiar with all the necessary steps, and she's out of the country for the next week and a half. It's been nerve-wracking and frustrating trying to figure out all that needs to be done, and yet I feel the need to figure it out on my own. I don't know if that's independence, or stubbornness and unwillingness to admit defeat. Most of it has been me stressing more than I need to, which is what I do when I begin a new process and don't have someone to turn to.
I don't know that I quite have the hang of things yet, but I'm slowly getting there. Since summer is the time to catch up and change things, I'll be in charge of ILL for the rest of the summer, which will be great experience to have. It's fun learning all the different steps of a process, and making it your own. I'm a little OCD and want to have everything up to date, but I don't know what the other supervisor has done or is in the process of doing, and if there are other things that need to be done. Since she isn't here, and there isn't anybody at the library I can ask for help, there are just some things that I can't do. I'm hoping it will keep until she gets back.
I have to admit, with this new addition to my daily tasks, I have to work to get everything done in my shift instead of having plenty of time to twiddle my thumbs. It's exciting to have my shift so busy again, and now I struggle to get everything done in a day. It's a good thing most of the things I do aren't time sensitive and can be done the next day. Plus it's always good to show that you're willing to learn and expand.
