My sister got out of the hospital Saturday afternoon. She was very happy to see Baby Niece, and things seem to be somewhat back to normal. The doctors aren't sure what is wrong with my sister, so she has to watch her blood pressure and take more tests. I think she shouldn't have to pay her bills if the doctors can't figure out what's wrong, after all they're not really fixing anything are they?
The weather has been crazy. The storm last week was bad, but it happened at night and didn't affect the roads too badly, and school was canceled. Yesterday the storm raged all day, the roads were disgusting even the next morning. Getting to the bus stop was an adventure, and my mom had an adventure getting home after dropping me off (my mother is a saint for driving me to the bus stop every morning). The main roads hadn't been plowed, at least not well, by the time I got on the bus at 6:00am. The side roads were terrible, and some people had a hard time getting out of their driveway, much less their street! Luckily I had winter boots that I bought on black Friday, so I had some protection against the snow that was up to my calves on the sidewalk (almost to my knee between the sidewalk and the street).
I had called the info line for work and there was nothing last night. I decided to call again on my way to the transfer stop. Turns out the school was shut down until 11:00am. I realize the President is the one who decides the campus will close or not, but can't she make her decision sooner to accommodate those who have to leave before 6:00am to get to work on time?!? The night before, earlier in the morning?!? I know people who have class at 6, how are they supposed to know it's canceled if it isn't announced until after 6? It's extremely frustrating, especially since this is the second time it's happened to me. I spoke to one of my coworkers that had gotten to work early as well, she called up until 6 or 6:15, and there were no announcements. I realize us early morning people are just a small portion of the people that work at the college, but it would be nice to be considered in such situations.
Luckily this situation turned out MUCH better. I talked to my supervisor, who talked to her supervisor, and although the campus was closed, they were considerate to my situation. They're also being nice enough to allow us to make up for the hours we missed because of the weather and the holidays. Today I got to work in archiving, as well as have some down time by myself before the library opened. It was nice to just listen to my iPod and shelve books.
It's weird to think that the year is almost over, that after tomorrow it will be December. December? Really? Where did the year go?!? Oh well, I have a post and a website left to do for one class and then I'm done until January. Wish me luck, and let's hope the storms will only rage in the mountains until school gets out.
